Fishing

What We Have to Offer

Folly Beach offers all the variety a fisherman could want…surf fishing, river fishing, pier fishing and deep-sea sport fishing.

The fishing on and around Folly Beach is great year-round because of the low country’s mild temperatures. But of course, many more fish are caught during the warmer months.

Common Catches

Some of the most common catches around Folly Island are :

Boy with Big Fish on the Pier

  • Spotted Sea Trout
  • Sheepshead
  • Black Drum
  • Spanish Mackerel
  • King Mackerel
  • Bluefish
  • Whiting
  • Pompano
  • Red Drum
  • Flounder
  • Perch

The Florida pompano is the most prized catch among our locals, because of its fierce fight and great taste.

Bait & Tackle

You can purchase bait and tackle at the Folly Beach fishing pier or at Crosby’s Fish Market.

Fishing License

Anyone who fishes, ocean or river, from a boat, must have a saltwater fishing license. The only exception is fishing from the Folly Beach Pier where you can buy a license to fish only on the Pier. Most fishing charter captains supply bait and licenses.

Where to Get a License

You can obtain a 14-day Non-Resident saltwater fishing license for $11.00. If you are a resident, your annual license fee is $10.00. The nearest place to purchase a license is in the Sporting Goods department in Wal-Mart on Folly Road.
